Tasmania's Population Policy

The new Tasmanian Population Policy Planning for our future (the policy) was released on 3 July 2024 to lead the state’s move towards a more balanced and sustainable population.

The purpose of the policy is to ensure intergenerational wellbeing for all Tasmanians by ensuring long-term, balanced population growth, and equipping the state to prepare, plan for and manage future population trends, challenges and opportunities.

The policy outlines three key priorities – liveability, the people and skills we need, and sustainability.

These priorities have been developed following consultation with the community, government, industry and local businesses.
